Congratulations Tom Delaney
What a great achievement for young Tom Delaney to bring an All-Ireland hurling medal back to Cahir after an epic game in Nowlan Park in front of 27,000 people on Sunday last. The excitement all week was just unbelievable and the pressure was really on the young players. Tipperary struggled in the early part of the game but Tom scored a wonderful point from long range when Offaly were leading by 5 points to 3. Tipperary never gave up and were rewarded with a winning goal in the 4th minute of injury time which stunned Offaly and secured victory for Tipperary. Tom has had a wonderful year and was man of the match in the Munster and All Ireland semi finals. Tom joins an elite group of Cahir men, Jim Burke (Minor 1949), Richie Quirke (Junior 1989), Philly Kiely (Junior 1989), Darren O’Connor (U21 1995, Intermediate 2000), Andy Moloney (U21 1995) & Brian Enright (Intermediate 2000) who won All-Ireland hurling medals playing for Tipperary. Hopefully we will not have to wait another twenty two years for the next one. Well done and congratulations to Tom, his family and all in Cahir GAA who have helped and coached him over the years.
CHAMPIONSHIP IS HERE
Our Junior hurlers play their first championship game of the year on Sunday next when they play Grangemockler/Ballyneale in Ned Hall Park at 12 noon. This is a very tough assignment for Cahir, but the players have trained well and we wish them the best of luck. Our Junior B hurlers are due to play Ballybacon/Grange in their final league match in Goatenbridge on Saturday evening.
